'Supernatural' Season 11: Eric Kripke Solves Pilot Mystery, Why Did Dean Return To Sam's Apartment?

Posted by on

The brilliant mind behind 'Supernatural' has provided the answer to one of the drama's longest-running conundrums.

Nearly 12 years later, series creator Eric Kripke has solved one of Supernatural's greatest mysteries.

Back in September 2005, Kripke brought the world of supernatural to life with Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean's (Jensen Ackles) first adventure. The 42 minutes that the brothers spent hunting the Woman in White hold a special place in out hearts, but there was always one detail that left viewers flummoxed - why did Dean return to Sam's apartment just as Jess' (Adrianne Palicki) body burst into flames (see video below)? As of Sunday, fans need wonder no more.

The answer lies in a scene that fell to the cutting room floor. Despite peeling off several minutes before his little bro was nearly turned into paranormal barbecue, the elder Winchester was keyed into his brother's plight courtesy of classic demon warning signs.

Oh the parallels! Now we want to get our hands on those DVD extras...

While we sincerely wish the clip made the final cut, we're not surprised it fell by the wayside. The pilot was chock full of information, and Dean's realization was small potatoes when compared to the Winchesters' backstory, John's (Jeffery Dean Morgan) disappearance, and the brothers' reunion.

Kripke's reveal comes just as Supernatural is preparing to solve another head scratcher. Chuck (Rob Benedict) will return in May 4's "Don't Call Me Shurley," and fans will (hopefully) learn exactly what/who the multi-hyphenate really is.

Find out more when Supernatural returns to The CW on April 27 at 9 p.m. ET.
